Captured, abused, and enslaved by ISIS in 2014, Shireen took refuge in Nebraska. We helped her file for asylum in 2017, which was finally approved on June 18, 2024.

The process of filing paperwork, being granted interviews and finally getting residency is a long and arduous process. Qasim, who is a U.S. citizen, petitioned his wife Baydaa, who was in the US, and his step children, who were in Iraq. Qasim and Baydaa came to CLIA for help, as their biggest obstacle was lack of knowledge as to what to file and where. We helped get her legal permanent residence and helped expedite her childrens' cases. It took nearly two years but the family is reunited.

It took nearly a year to get an interview at the US embassy in Baghdad. Today, Ibrahim and Sameera Zandinan are together!
